AMS, Energys and GreenH – Enabling a Zero-Emission Maritime Future
The maritime industry is undergoing a major transformation. Stricter environmental regulations and growing customer expectations are driving shipowners to seek new technologies capable of significantly reducing or eliminating greenhouse gas emissions. To meet this challenge, Anlegg og Marine Service AS (AMS) has established a partnership with Australian fuel cell specialist Energys and Norwegian hydrogen producer GreenH.
Energys has developed hydrogen fuel cell systems for more than fifteen years and is recognized as an innovative supplier of fuel cell technology for maritime applications. Through its partnership with Energys, AMS represents and supports these solutions in the Nordic market, providing local maritime expertise, project execution, installation, commissioning, and after-sales support. Together, the companies make advanced fuel cell technology accessible to shipowners looking to reduce emissions while preparing their fleets for future environmental requirements.
Energy recently visited AMS to plan the future of the collaboration. True to tradition, when AMS receives visits from international partners, a hike up to the Pulpit Rock is a must.

GreenH complements the collaboration by supplying and developing green hydrogen infrastructure – the fuel that powers the fuel cell systems. The interaction between hydrogen production, energy conversion, and vessel integration is essential for establishing a complete zero-emission value chain. AMS and Energys have already collaborated with GreenH on projects involving large-scale maritime fuel cell installations, demonstrating how hydrogen can become a practical alternative to conventional marine fuels.
For customers, fuel cells offer several important advantages. Instead of generating power through combustion, fuel cells convert hydrogen directly into electricity through an electrochemical process. The only by-products are water and heat, making the technology a true zero-emission solution at the point of use. In addition, fuel cells provide high energy efficiency, reduced noise levels, and lower vibration compared with conventional diesel-powered systems. They can also be integrated with batteries and other energy sources as part of hybrid energy systems, allowing greater operational flexibility and optimized vessel performance.
An important factor for many vessel owners is the availability of investment support from Enova. Such support can significantly reduce the financial risk associated with adopting new technology and accelerate the transition towards sustainable maritime operations.
